2008 Volkswagen Golf GTI

The 2008 Volkswagen Golf GTI was designed to perform, however, judging by the looks of the vehicle, most people did not expect such performance from what many termed a small family friendly vehicle. There were two versions of the Volkswagen GTI, it came in a two door and a four door version. However, probably the most popular was the two door version as it appealed to those younger adults who wanted a nice vehicle, with great gas mileage. Both versions were equipped with a 2.0 liter four cylinder engine that came with either the six speed manual transmission or a transmission that was called the Direct Shift Gearbox or DSG for short. This transmission allowed the driver to manually shift gears without having to worry with a clutch, which appealed to many people.

The GTI had many standard features that were considered luxurious at the time and when going with any automaker would cost the person much extra. These standard features were blue tinted windows to reduce the amount of light that gets into the interior as well as the blinding glare that occurs while driving in the sunlight. There were also seventeen inch alloy wheels, Sirius satellite radio equipped in all GTI vehicles, and safety features such as tire pressure monitoring and front side and curtain airbags that are proven to help those in the car during a crash.

The car was deemed as being fun and practical. Plus, since it was a Volkswagen car, the safety features of the car put it in the top bracket of safety first cars and great German engineering. Those who test drove the GTI were amazed at its performance, stating that it could compete with the majority of small cars in its class and win. Most people automatically thought the GTI was geared towards those that were younger, however, young and old alike could get a thrill out of driving the GTI. For those with kids, the GTI still fits the majority of their needs. There is ample room in the back seat for a car seat or two, while the cargo area is still roomy enough to hold everything that a family may need on a trip out of town. The cargo area does have the plastic that can be lifted up and objects placed inside, which means that it does have almost double the cargo space as other small cars in the same class. A huge perk for those with a family.

Fuel mileage wise the car boasts getting around twenty plus miles per gallon in the city, while getting around twenty-nine miles per gallon on the highway. Of course, many of those that test drove the car did not get this since they did not drive as the EPA estimated that people would drive the car, which is hard to do given the performance that the vehicle can give. However, with the fuel mileage numbers as they are, this was one of the main reasons why the car was considered one of the best cars to own in 2008.
